Little Bag Clutch Tutorial & Pattern

This darling little bag tucks perfectly into your palm. Its tiny size is great if you’re looking to carry only a few items such as your cell phone and wallet, and as a result, it is ideal for use as a makeup bag or glasses carrier.

Pattern shows a fresh new way to create the bag corners that give the clutch its volume, and the oversized button decoration complements the cute character of the bag. The bonus of this bag’s decoration is that you get the cuteness of the button without the hassle of actually having to use it when opening or closing the clutch. Everybody needs a cute little clutch or two. Why not start on one now?

Apply the magnetic snap
Attach the magnetic snap onto the right side of the lining flap and exterior front piece following the manufacturer’s guide. Center the snap onto the interfacing and use a pencil to draw a line where the fabric will be cut. Cut the line. Insert the prongs of one of the magnetic snaps into the right side of the exterior front. Secure the thin prongs on the wrong side of the exterior front. Punch the hole only onto the lining flap piece. Assemble the flap, and then attach the other magnetic snap in the same manner.

Sew the Exterior
Place the exterior front and back pieces with right sides together. Pin and sew the exterior, backstitching on both ends, sew the 3 sides as shown in Picture.

Make the Corners
Draw a 1” x 1” square on each bottom corner of the exterior fabric’s wrong side, see Picture 2. Flip the fabric onto its side and pinch each bottom corner so that the corner seam forms a triangle and the 1” mark forms a straight line, see Picture 3. Pin and sew following the line, see Picture 4.
