Stuffed Animal. Whale Tutorial

Here is a quick sewing tutorial you can make for the kids and babies in your life.  You can add buttons as eyes to these for older kids, but without buttons, they're baby-friendly and the perfect size for babies to play with.

You'll need:
Two small pieces of fabric about 7"x12"
Sewing supplies
Poly-fill
Chopstick

Cut desired animal shape out of your fabric.  (See bottom of post for more ideas.)  Pin all the way around.
Starting from the bottom and leaving a 2" opening, stitch all the way around shape.  Clip all curves.

Using chopstick to poke out small areas, turn right side out.
Pull off small pieces of poly-fill (I know you'll be tempted to rip off a huge chunk and shove it in there, but trust me, taking the time to do this well means you won't have an ugly lumpy animal.

You can use your chopstick again to push poly-fill up into those little areas, like this whale's tail.  Pack the poly-fill in there tight and smooth out any lumps by moving poly-fill around.  Fill animal all the way up so the stuffing is busting out of your opening.

Now handstitch the opening closed.  It helps to hold the animal between your knees and pinch the fabric together with one hand and stitch with the other.

There you have it!  A cute little addition to any child's stuffed toy collection.

Here are some of the other animals I've made.  My personal favorite is the red blue and yellow polka dotted elephant.  He's pretty cute!
