It is really easy to sew Simon's Cat! He will sew not only a beginner, but even a child or someone who has never held a needle and thread in his hands.
To get a cat of about 30 cm, you need to print the pattern on an A3 sheet.
What you'll need. In fact, not much at all. Difficulties may arise by and large only with stuffing, as it is better to look for this case, padding polyester or holofiber (names are many - the essence is the same) and in the very last resort to stuff with syntypon. And so...
1. fabric - white fleece.
2. Pillow stuffing - padding polyester/Moss Foam/holofiber.
3. needle.
4. White plain and black muline threads.
5. Large and small scissors.
6. Pins preferably with flat heads.
7. A disappearing fabric marker or a regular (or better yet, silver) gel pen.
8. A pair of beads for eyes.
9. And a sushi stick! You can replace it with a pencil or a pen, but a stick for turning out and stuffing toys is just perfect!
So, we have everything we need, or almost everything.... Let's get started!
1. Transfer the pattern to the fabric. Measure the necessary piece of fabric, fold it in half face inward. Look carefully at the fleece and do not confuse its face with the underside! On the front side of the fleece is thicker and longer. And pay ATTENTION whether it stretches in the right direction! It should coincide with the arrows on the pattern.
Attach the pattern and trace it with a marker/pen. You can pin the pattern to the fabric with a couple of pins to keep it from slipping. And I recommend that in the future those patterns that you plan to use more than once, make of cardboard. They will be more convenient to work with and will last longer.
Circle, remove the pattern, smooth the fabric with your hands, staple two layers with pins. It is possible for reliability and sweep, but fleece due to the presence of its pile is not slippery and the layers are well held in relation to each other.
2. Stitch the parts together. Stitch the body and tail parts with small stitches. Just don't hurry!!! Cat's fingers are almost jewelry work! Be patient :) Of course, it is desirable to sew on a machine.
And here I will now say a strange thing probably ... If you forgot to leave holes for eversion, you did the right thing! Here I do it in a clever way....
3. Cutting. Fleece is a wonderful fabric! It doesn't crumble at all on the edges and you can leave literally 2-4 mm of seam allowance.
ATTENTION! Don't forget to make notches between the fingers and ears, so that there will be no ugly overstretches on the toy.
At the tips of the ears you can leave an even smaller seam allowance to make them look prettier after turning them out.
Two circles - the future eyes - just cut along the lines.
4. Turn out. To do this, we make two small slits: at the place where the eyes will be sewn later and at the end of the tail, which will be used to sew it to the body of the cat. In this way we will avoid the painful sewing of ugly holes like countersunk stitch. Maybe someone has it and well it turns out well, and I was easier to think of workarounds.
Anyway, here we go.
And then like magic... a sushi stick appears :))))))) The different thickness of its ends is very convenient for turning out (especially narrow long parts), and for stuffing all sorts of hard-to-reach places.
5. Stuff the toy. In small pieces. Sushi stick to help :) Stuff it FULL!!! Do not spare stuffing. Carefully work out each finger, each ear. Stuff the paws. Give appetizing shapes to the tummy. Try to stuff the toy so as to smooth out all the wrinkles.
6. Sew the holes. From the picture it is probably not very clear what a countersunk stitch is, so look it up on Google if you want.
That's how it should work. It's a little scary, but it's temporary :)
7. Sew on the eyes. Figure out where to place them, pin them and sew them on with small neat stitches with a seam “through the edge”. It is IMPORTANT to leave an opening! A little stuff the eye and sew it up. I recommend to take a bigger thread at once, so as not to make knots.
8. Pupils. Large beads or small beads. You can sew both pupils with one thread, and put the knot on the place where the nose will be later. But on the photo for some reason it is not there.... А! I hid it under the edge of the eye. Yes, by the way! All the ends of the thread hide under the fabric! No stumps sticking out!
Of course, you can make pupils just knotted black threads, but will not be that fire in the eyes :)))))
9. Embroider the face. I use muline for this (2 threads, folded twice more). Using the “backward needle” stitch, carefully outline each eye. Nose and mouth is convenient to outline a disappearing marker, and if it is not available, then you can stick pins in key places as beacons. Embroider, trying to make the knot as inconspicuous as possible.
10. Tail! Personally, I sew such parts with countersunk stitch as if in a circle. Like this.
12. admiring :))))) Well, you can still knot his ass or make a cross or manhood, but in general, our Simon's cat is ready! We did it!
